The Alliance for Green Heat is thrilled by the response we have received so far. If you represent a Team that would like to take part in the Challenge, please fill in the electronic registration form available on our website. The deadline for registration is October 1, 2012, but may be extended if you obtain a waiver from the Challenge Organizer. Thanks to everyone who has registered or signed up to sponsor teams! We can't wait to get a glimpse of the innovative stoves that will be entered.

  1. What a great idea to harness the creative energies of your members to take a fresh approach towards designing the next generation of wood stoves!

I also look forward to the contest for your industry to come up with a way to mount a nationwide wood pellet bag take-back program to finally enable your customers to recycle the endless sea of plastic bags flowing from everyone who owns a wood pellet stove. Your customers call and e-mail me all the time regarding this issue.

Why are they contacting me? Because I work for the Chittenden Solid Waste District, the municipality in Northwestern Vermont that is on the receiving end of all those plastic bags, and our constituents know that it is our job to do everything we can to stem the flow of material to the landfill.

The last time I raised this issue in a letter to the editor, I heard a lot of "Yes! We certainly need to pay attention to this issue!" from folks in your industry. Then, nothing. From what I can see, there has been no movement beyond recognizing that there are challenges.

C'mon, folks! There's a lot of creativity and passion for doing the right thing among you. Please don't let another heating season pass without a concerted effort to this end.

    Many thanks,
